"Giving You the Benefit (Of the Doubt)" is a number-one R&B single by Pebbles from her second album Always. The song reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at number-one on the R&B chart,[1] becoming one of her biggest singles.
Subject
The lyrics, written by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Pebbles's then-husband Antonio "L. A." Reid, who also jointly composed its music, are from the point of view of a woman who suspects that her boyfriend is not being faithful to her. She notes that she can easily make things difficult for him. But she explains that she has chosen not to do so in the hope that he will realize he has done her wrong and return, and make things up to her.
